Hallo TLF,
Tracy

Welcome to the TLF. Please feel free to write in english.

Let's start with something many want to have: the choice. The choice between different colour temperatures, like warm white (ww), neutral (nw) and cold white (cw).

Also the colour rendition is a topic, especially since many ww-binnings seem to have at least a slightly higher CRI than nw and cw binnings of the same LED-type, which makes people believe ww is "better" than nw and cw.

Also blinking modes are not sought after that much, rather low and very low modes are on the wishlist more often.

Carsten

Hello Stefan,

Thanks for your words about the color temperature and Strobe mode.

Currently, we have some flashlights with 5350-5700K(NW), and some early flashlights we sold on Amazon.de are 6000-6500K(CW). At the meaning while, we are starting offer Warm White(3000K) version for some models such as SD02A, SF36W and SF31W. As you said, a WW light has a higher CRI than NW or CW, also we found it was quality penetration in rain and fog mist, night and muddy waters. It’s certain that we will offer mult color temperature on some models.

We have realized that most of customers don’t like blinking modes so we would either hidden them or remove them. And a direct option to moonlight mode will always make a sense.

Sincerely thank you again.

Greetings

Tracy

Hallo Tracy,
- Blinkmodi sehr gut versteckt

Another idea: why not use the USB-port also for programming the controller? For example:

I prefer two switches. So I'd set my UI-levels (think of menu levels on a computer) like

Level 1: ON / OFF
Level 2: low / mid / high
Level 3: eco / turbo

I'd then assign switch A to only switch between ON and OFF with memory of last setting of level 2.

Switch B selects the mode low -> mid -> high -> low -> mid and so on by single clicks.

Double clicking switch B accesses level 3 of "my" UI always in eco, so I can long press for turbo (single click back to eco), double click goes back to level 2).

And if I find that this doesn't fit my needs, I just hook it up to my PC and transfer another configuration file into the lamp.

Configuraration files should be text files, so they can be either generated by an app or just by simply editing them with notepad or vim.

Even if you don't offer programmable flashlights to the end user, such an architecture would allow you to sell customized UI versions to large customers without the necessity to do a special production run using preprogrammed controllers. Or, a solution in between, offfering programming adaptors to special customers like police departments, allowing them to deploy and reprogram UIs to their needs without the hassle of end users calling in because they have bricked their torch by sending nonsense as configuration.

Hallo Carsten,

Hello Stefan,

Thanks for your good idea.

This way to programming is a little difficult. But I will transfer your ideas to our engineers to see if there is a possible.

Sincerely thank you again.

Have a nice day.

Batteries with built in USB-powered charger are very useful for ordinary people who just buy one flashlight and use this occassionally. Most people have cell phones, so "no extra charger needed".

If someone uses his flashlight (or flashlights) regularly, like service technicians, security, police etc., they will carry spare batteries with them and use an external charger. USB wall warts are inconvenient to them. Also think of a storage room or a corner of an office at a PD or FD whith a dozen or more wall warts instead of two or three distinct charges.

As long as such (USB chargeable) batteries just behave like ordinary protected Liion batteries, especially if they can be charged using normal LiIon-chargers, there is no issue with them. Afaik Fenix does offer 2.5 Ah both without and with USB port, so just offer both variants but i don't know wether the USB variant can be charged directly without USB. Again, the choice...

I agree with Carsten, a battery with integrated USB charging port is not the best solution. Charging is not possible with (already available) standard batteries. Users need to buy replacement batteries with USB charging port and these are more expensive and not very common.

Yes, we totally agree with you guys' points. A special rechargeable battery with USB port sometimes may not a good choice for convenience. Therefore, we would like to release a rechargeable flashlight with micro-USB port next year.
Thanks a lot for all suggestions.

I agree with Gammel. External USB-ports are susceptible to failure of the rubber plug. Water and dirt will then enter. On the other hand, hiding the USB-port under the head or tailcap requires unscrewing these parts. As Dachfalter mentioned, unscrewing causes wear and tear on the o-rings and threads, so it's not very different from removing the battery.

Batteries with USB-port may be useful for some scenarios (see my post above), while for other uses an external magnetic connector may be very useful.

Welcome, Tracy :)

I like to have led-drivers in flashlights where i can configure three modes and which one comes up when starting.
The bistro driver menu as used in some blf and astrolux flashlights is nice for this and other wanted programmings by using one switch only. Or a led-driver for a few modes who store the desired brightnesses, by ramping maybe.

Good job with the SP32(A)

Edit: I’ve never used holsters for flashlights, so i think the equipment as seen in SP32A is good as is.
Hmhm... i‘d like to buy an additional battery tube for 18350 batteries.

Hallo Tracy,

Sorry, my English is not the yellow of the egg ;-)
And your (Google) German is much better than my mandarin (couldn't speak it).
